Ellis & Winters is pleased to announce that Don Cowan has received the Judge John J. Parker Award, considered the highest award bestowed by the North Carolina Bar Association. Mr. Cowan was presented with the award at the 2014 NCBA Annual Meeting in Wilmington on June 21, 2014.
Having long served with the NCBA, Mr. Cowan acted as president of the organization from 1992-93 and chaired the Litigation Section in 1985-86. He previously received the NCBA’s CLE Volunteer of the Year Award as well as the Litigation Section’s Advocate’s Award.
The Judge John J. Parker Memorial Award was established in 1959 by the NCBA Board of Governors. The award honors the memory and the accomplishments of Judge Parker and encourages the emulation of his deep devotion and enduring contribution to the law and to the administration of justice. The award recognizes conspicuous service by members of the bar of this state to the cause of jurisprudence in North Carolina.
“Don Cowan is an exemplary lawyer. His contributions to North Carolina’s legal community have been nothing short of extraordinary. I am proud to have practiced with him and I can think of no one more deserving of such a great honor,” said Ellis & Winters managing partner Leslie Packer.
