Mike Winters named Cary Chamber Citizen of the Year

Ellis & Winters partner Michael G. Winters received the Citizen of the Year award at the Cary Chamber of Commerce’s annual meeting on September 17.

The award recognizes the long-term commitment and distinguished service to the Cary community.

The Chamber honored Mr. Winters for his professional accomplishments — as a founding partner of the largest law firm in Cary, which has grown from 9 to 30 lawyers — as well as his personal support of community organizations.

As a member of Colonial Baptist Church, Mr. Winters has served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher and Bible Study Fellowship leader. He also provided pro bono work for Christian Community in Action.

For more than 25 years, Mr. Winters coached Cary Recreation Boys and Girls basketball teams. Through his leadership, Ellis & Winters recently raised $24,000 for the Susan B. Koman Race for the Cure.

In his eight years on the Cary Chamber Board of Directors, Mr. Winters has been chairman twice.
