Sean Fernandes Interviewed by North Carolina Lawyers Weekly On Data Security Issues

Ellis & Winters LLP attorney Sean Fernandes was recently interviewed by North Carolina Lawyers Weekly on his thoughts regarding protecting client data during e-discovery. The article, “E-discovery Can Create Perils for Client Data,” focuses on recent law firm data breaches and what how lawyers can manage breach risk in the e-discovery context.  Sean discusses how lawyers can protect client data and manage risk through data security and usage contractual terms and reviewing e-discovery vendor data security protocols.

Sean Fernandes is a member of the firm’s Privacy & Data Security and Litigation practice groups.  In his Privacy & Data Security practice, Sean has advised clients on compliance with international privacy laws, including GDPR, and state and federal privacy and breach notification laws, including HIPAA, the Fair Credit Reporting Act, the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, and state identity theft laws.  He is also an active member of the Privacy and Data Security Committee of the ABA’s Litigation Section.  In 2017, Sean became certified by the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) as a Certified Information Privacy Professional/United States (CIPP/US).
