Ellis & Winters attorneys win largest verdict of 2008

Ellis & Winters LLP congratulates partners Jonathan D. Sasser and Thomas H. Segars for winning North Carolina’s largest verdict of 2008. Representing Serenex, Inc., an RTP drug development company recently purchased by Pfizer, they obtained a judgment in excess of $57 million in Wake County Superior Court. The international corporate espionage lawsuit originated after a Ph.D. chemist stole the formulas for several of the company’s potentially cancer-curing compounds, and delivered those secrets to business interests in the People’s Republic of China.

Messrs. Sasser and Segars, who represent businesses in complex litigation, were recently recognized by North Carolina Lawyer’s Weekly for the “Top Verdict of 2008.” Ellis & Winters LLP is a litigation and commercial litigation boutique, whose 30 lawyers provide sophisticated legal services to more than 30 members of the Fortune 500.
