The Ellis & Winters team of Kristi’s Krew set a new team fundraising record for the Komen NC Triangle Race for the Cure with a total of $38,687 raised for the 2010 Race.

Over the past two years, including sponsorship and fundraising dollars, Ellis & Winters has invested over $80,000 in the fight against breast cancer.

Seventy-five percent of those funds are used right here in our community to provide underserved women with education, screening, treatment and post-treatment services — everything from mammograms to biopsies to paying for wigs for women who have little or no insurance. This includes women under the age of 40 who fall through the cracks of other assistance programs.

Twenty-five percent of the funds raised go to Komen’s National Grant Program, which funds innovative research toward finding the cures for breast cancer. Because we have UNC, Duke and Wake Forest in our area, a significant amount of these dollars end up coming back to our community.

“All of us have been inspired by Kristi’s story and the way Ellis & Winters has turned a tragic loss into hope for thousands of women. The funds they’ve raised and donated to Komen are saving lives so that other families and friends don’t have to endure what they have. We are honored to have them as part of our Komen NC Triangle family,” said Laura Tormey, Director of Development and Communications, Komen NC Triangle.
