Ellis & Winters Announces Two New Partners

Ellis & Winters is pleased to announce that Joseph D. Hammond and David L. Hillman have been elected partners of the firm.

Joseph Hammond’s practice is focused in the areas of civil litigation and construction litigation.  He has been named a “North Carolina Rising Star” in civil litigation by North Carolina Super Lawyers Magazine in 2017.  Mr. Hammond graduated from New York University School of Law, where he was a Robert McKay Scholar, served on the staff of the Journal of Law and Liberty, and worked at the Prosecution Clinic at the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York.  He received his B.A. from the University of Virginia, where he was an Echols Scholar.

David Hillman concentrates his practice in commercial real estate, debt finance and related business matters. He represents developers, investors, sellers, landlords, tenants and others in connection with the acquisition, sale, leasing, development and operation of real property.  Mr. Hillman is an active member of both NAIOP and ULI.  He has served on the Board of Directors for NAIOP’s Developing Leaders since 2010 and is a graduate of Leadership Raleigh.  He was named by Business North Carolina as a “Young Gun” (2013) and “Legal Elite” in Real Estate (2013, 2015-2017).  He was also named to the “Rising Stars” list in Real Estate by North Carolina Super Lawyers Magazine (2016-2017).  Mr. Hillman graduated from UNC Chapel Hill with a B.A. in Mathematics and English, Phi Beta Kappa. He earned his juris doctor, cum laude, from Washington and Lee University School of Law, where he was admitted into Omicron Delta Kappa.
