The firm takes pride in its leadership within the North Carolina appellate bar. Mr. Sawchak also has been recognized as a board-certified specialist in appellate practice by the North Carolina State Bar and serves on the official committee that administers the appellate practice specialization in North Carolina. Paul Sun, Jon Sasser, and Matt Sawchak have all served as speakers at North Carolina’s annual appellate practice CLE program. Stephen Feldman serves on the section council for the North Carolina Bar Association’s Appellate Practice Committee, as well as on the leadership of the American Bar Association’s Appellate Practice Committee.
The firm’s lawyers have litigated well over one hundred appellate matters. These matters involve not only trial court cases litigated by the firm’s attorneys, but also new appeals in which the firm did not participate in the trial court. The firm’s appellate lawyers are also sought out to author amicus curiae briefs to aid the appellate courts in their deliberations.
